The Making of a Doctor

Dear family and friends,

I remember the white coat ceremony like it was yesterday — Malik, twenty-two and terrified, shrugging into a coat two sizes too crisp while I cried in the third row. He called that night and said, "Ma, I don't know what I'm doing." I told him nobody does, on day one. Do it anyway.

Four years, more exams than either of us could count, and one very long March morning waiting on Match Day results later — he did it anyway, every single time. This May he crosses the stage as Dr. Malik Johnson. I could not be prouder, and I would love nothing more than to have you there beside me.

With so much love,Angela Johnson

A note on gifts
Your presence is the present

Honestly, having you there to see Malik cross the stage is more than enough. If you'd still like to send something, a contribution toward his first year of residency — scrubs, textbooks, and a decent coffee maker — would be gratefully received.
