It was a rain-slicked evening on Meeting Street, 1977. Harold was late for the streetcar and Ruth was standing under the awning of a shuttered bookshop with no umbrella at all. He offered his — a borrowed one, truthfully, and never returned to its owner — and they missed the streetcar together, then the next one too.
They still take that corner slow when they're downtown, and Harold still claims the umbrella was his own idea and not, as Ruth insists, the last dry thing in his hands. Fifty years, four children, eight grandchildren, and one very patient bookshop later, we'd love nothing more than to have you raise a glass with us.

Cocktail attire — warm, golden tones to suit a candlelit evening.
Tea-length or floor-length in amber, gilt, ivory or mahogany. Soft fabrics, low heels — the Magnolia Room's floors are original wood.
Dark suit or blazer, tie optional. A gold or amber pocket square is very welcome, never required.
